I have to admit I’m not a fan of The Foo Fighters, but I am a fan of talent and, humbly, an expert on what and why people are popular. So when the news broke yesterday of the untimely passing of their drummer Taylor Hawkins at the tragically young age of 50, I knew it … Read more
If it hadn’t been for William Shatner and a long Shea Stadium ticket line, today wouldn’t be the strangest anniversary to celebrate. OK, let’s unpack this. My all-time favorite game show is PYRAMID, which back in 1975 was just a $10,000 triangle. Among its more exuberant players was Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. While a … Read more
I debated about this entry on my flights home yesterday (yes, ye who troll, I committed the cardinal sin of traveling on planes during a pandemic yet again; would you like a full report?). The person I will call out here tacitly reminded me that to do so might be seen as disparaging many people … Read more
Caught The Batman this weekend (thanks for the treat, roomie) in an actual movie theatre, a momentary escape from the hellish week of still more rejection and impatience I endured. I hesitated in observing this particular anniversary as I have some many others in this space, but a friend that I was actually making in-person lunch plans with yesterday made the fatal mistake of pointing out the milestone to me. Plus, it was a relatively slow media news day, and I simply don’t have the … Read more
As I’ve shared before, I attended college in the small town of Oswego, New York. For a city boy like moi, for me the experience was as much sociological infusion as it was coming of age. I learned first -hand what it was like to consider the Ponderosa Steakhouse gourmet dining, how to dust off … Read more
Dear Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, First of all, let me thank you for running the state that provided me with some of the most entertaining moments of the past 12 months, as well as a beautiful living environment for numerous relatives and two of the most attractive and influential female friends I’ve ever had, as … Read more
President Biden gave a speech last night. I watched some of it. Based on current viewership trends versus pre-COVID, pre-streaming worlds that are now beginning to emerge as a new media normal takes root, probably 40 million or so other Americans will have joined me in that choice last night in some sort of consumption … Read more
