The Portland Trail Blazers will open their 2026-27 pre-season Wednesday night at the Moda Center in downtown “Rip City” against the Golden State Warriors. That much is certain. Beyond that, not much is –and that lengthy list of ifs grew by one last Thursday when THE ASSOCIATED PRESS elevated what began earlier in the day … Read more
With all of the high-stakes machinations and musical chairs being played out in the executive suites of Para–er, War–er, SKYDANCE–this week one could argue that the story that broke yesterday morning about another employee was not all that big a deal. But considering said employee was being seen by at least 20 million people most … Read more
I’d be willing to bet a fig or two that the amount of pizza and Red Bull being consumed this week in the condos and duplexes of those responsible for executive presentations was well above normal. With a headliner event such as BLOOMBERG SCREENTIME, optimally scheduled during the first full week of the uber-critical fourth … Read more
Let me nip this one in the bud right up front: I’m not David Ellison’s publicist and no, he hasn’t hired me for a project. Lord knows he doesn’t need my help in that regard and today of all days I wouldn’t even try to push the argument. At least he has a positive net … Read more
I’ve arguably not been all that fair to second generation media scions–particularly when they fall far short of the standards their parents set for the businesses they were gifted. As if the fine denizens of the Tri-State area haven’t had enough to lament about between horrific rains and Aaron Judge’s lingering calf injury a goodly number of them–disproportionately represented in my social media feeds–awoke yesterday morning to what they equated to a death in the family. This AI-assisted UGV ironically both memorialized and celebrated … Read more
Last week a disproportionate amount of people I know were retweeting (yeah, a couple were even retruthing), posting links to and sh-tposting about something in THE NEW YORK TIMES–and blissfully it had zip to do with politics. Over a five-day span the publications released a slow drip of clickbait via their 100 BEST TV SHOWS … Read more
If nothing else, I’m a creature of habit and fiercely loyal to those I developed decades ago. High on that list is my slavish devotion to watching SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, whose 52nd season kicked off last night. That means I started making it part of most of my weekends when I was in freaking high … Read more
I’m hardly the target demo for sequels of scripted dramas with outsized support from African-American audiences. But when one has personal connections to a couple of them such as I do I find a way to channel my focus group mentality and try to put myself in the mindset of those to whom these would … Read more
Another day, another reboot. Those streaming services certainly seem to be on autopilot in so many ways. I’ve come to grudgingly accept the fact that in this era algorithms far more than human analysis determine which shows get prioritized for promotion and KPIs rather than actual ratings–or whatever the automatons call their respective metrics of … Read more
